Experiential learning Unit on Development of Designer Health Foods and Bakery Products
Experiential Learning Unit was established in the year 2019-20 with financial support from ICAR, New Delhi with the objective to enable students to learn the basics of designer health foods and bakery products and to develop skill among the students to prepare health foods and bakery products and their commercialization.
Under Experiential learning, professional package offered by the department is based on Designer Health Foods and Bakery Products which aims at developing students as professionals required for designer food and bakery industries. Highly interactive and problem-solving approach is being adopted for providing instructions to the students.
The Experiential learning Unit comprised of two units:
Development of Designer Health Food
To impart knowledge and skill to the students in development of designer health foods by using variety of health food products such as grains, millets, nuts and seeds and commercialization of these health food products among population to prevent non communicable disease and malnutrition.
Bakery Products
To impart knowledge of bakery food items to the students which include biscuits, cakes, pastries, flat-bread, tortilla, chapatti, bun, croissant, etc. These products are rapidly gaining popularity owing to their pleasant taste and health-benefits as they are made from a variety of grains such as rye, maize, wheat and oats among others. The bakery unit is also equipped with technologically advanced industrial machines.
Retail Unit
A good number of designers health food products such as cakes, muffins, bread, flours, bar, instant mixes etc. developed by vocational students, as part of experiential learning are consistently being sold from the retail outlet of the university over the years which depicts students hard work, creativity and skill in handling variety of food products.
